Assistant Dean of Finance named

Oct. 5, 2011 — Ginger L. Osman, MPA, has joined UC Irvine's School of Medicine as assistant dean of finance and Chief Financial Officer, announced Dean Ralph V. Clayman, MD.

Osman "is a skilled executive with extensive experience in healthcare and the University of California system—a truly stellar combination," said Clayman of the new assistant dean, who hails from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

"In her new position, Ms. Osman will report to my office and serve as my advisor on financial administration to enable us to realize our goal of financial balance in all departments across the School of Medicine. This will enable us to more rapidly progress along each of the themes in our strategic plan. She will lead the development and implementation of our financial policies and systems, and provide oversight for all accounting functions, including departmental budgets."

Osman served in many roles at UCLA, including six and a half years as CFO of Pediatrics and 20 years as the executive administrator of three multi-specialty academic departments—Pediatrics, Family Medicine and Human Genetics. She directed the departments' financial activities and budget processes, and was responsible for the professional-fee billing operations of the Department of Pediatrics.

In addition, Osman managed family medicine and pediatric ambulatory care sites and was responsible for residency recruitment, faculty and resident education, and medical student curricula.

"Her combined experience in academia and healthcare, and overall knowledge of the UC system, will be incredibly valuable to the ongoing progress of our School of Medicine," Clayman said.
